Top Toys for Toddlers – not to be missed!

Nathan’s Mumma Says…

Nathan has just turned 2, hooray! He is officially a toddler, no longer a baby. This brings with it a whole new set of skills and development, which in turn require a completely different set of toys and equipment to expand his ever-increasing imagination and interests.

With his birthday being so close to Christmas we now own a good chunk of the toys available for toddlers. Nathan’s birthday buddy, Ellie, completes our set with the typical toys for girls and some brilliant unisex items.

  • Threading kits, these sets are brilliant for teaching colours, animals and shapes as well as manual dexterity and concentration. They are available from places such as ELC and Mothercare, we also like these sets…

  • A toy kitchen, several of the Mumma Says babies had one of these for Christmas. There are many variations and price brackets. Ellie & Millie both have beautiful pink wooden ones, Nathan enjoys playing with them too…they have doors…need I say more? Leyton has a plastic red one with lights/sounds too…We like:

  • A farm, we love animals and going to visit a farm or a zoo. Nathan’s grandparents bought his the Fisher Price Little People fun sounds farm for Christmas and he loves it. We also thought that these were lovely farm sets:

  • A Playhouse, a wonderful invention for hide and seek games and imaginative play. Nathan has a garden playhouse but on cold wet days it is nice to have one in the house too. Ellie however trumps all playhouses with her Puppy Lane Play cottage. There are some brilliant variations for both boys and girls…unnamed

  • A wooden train set, a brilliant toy for their imagination and manual dexterity. All of the manufacturers state that all wooden train sets can be put together so it doesn’t have to all be from the same brand. We have a bigjigs and ELC set which work fine together. We thought these were good sets too…unnamed (8)

  • Fabric wall calendars/alphabets/numbers/shapes. All of the Mumma Says children like learning their colours and shapes. So these fabric wall hanging are a lovely way of displaying things for them to absorb.

Quiltown ABC Teddy Book

  • A first bike, this was against my better judgement as he’s still so little but it does say for 2+ and he loves being pushed around on it, Nathan has the Thomas the Tank engine version but we thought these were great:

  • Dolls & a buggy, most of the girls in the Mumma Says team received a doll or two from Santa, and there were one or two buggies also. However, being a very non-stereotypical group of Mummas, several of the boys have a doll and buggy as well. They are always a popular toy on playdates and at playgroups. These are some of our favourites….

Melissa & Doug Jenna – 12″ Doll

Bayer Design Doll`s Stroller (Blue)

  • Play-doh, a great toy for learning about texture, colour and how to creat different shapes and patterns. Ellie is a genius when it comes to play-doh and will sit for half an hour at the table playing away, Nathan however has a rather shorter attention span of 10 minutes or so but even he enjoys making patterns and stamping out the dough. These are our favourite play-doh sets…
